Dan PinchbeckGames Writer, Director & Producer
Dan Pinchbeck is Creative Director of The Chinese Room, an award-wimming game studio based in Brighton, UK. Their first game, Dear Esther, is widely regarded as starting the FPX or First Person Exploration genre of gaming and is internationally recognised as a landmark title. Dear Esther was a critical and commercial hit, and has earned awards worldwide. Dan wrote and designed Dear Esther, and the follow-up game, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, a cult Victorian horror that again won a devoted following and saw Dan shortlisted for the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain awards, amongst other nomimations.
This summer, the studio released the Playstation 4 exclusive Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, an open-world drama about a small rural community facing the end of the world. Once again a critical smash, Rapture was described by The Telegraph as “an extraordinary peice of work”; “genuinely staggering” by Wired; “a landmark for writing” by GamesTM; and”one of the most affecting narratives in recent history” by EDGE. Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture has already been shortlisted for numerous international awards and holds the record for fastest-selling digital only title on Playstation 4.
