Justin Trefgarne
Producer, Writer & Director
Justin is a writer, director and sometimes actor whose work straddles Film, TV, Video Games and Comic books.
After a spectacularly poor attempt to be a movie star Justin sidestepped into directing theatre, which was less lucrative than driving a van for the BBC, which he did before somehow becoming a development executive at UK production company Working Title for four years. After nearly getting fired for making a short film in his spare time, Justin left WT to become a ‘full time writer and director’.
Before his departure he was told that in six months he’d be begging for his job back. That was in 2006. Since then Justin has written many feature scripts that haven’t been made and one that has. The futuristic thriller Narcopolis (Altitude Films, 2015) was Justin’s debut feature as writer-director, starring Jonathan Pryce, Elliot Cowan and James Callis. Largely ignored by the British it has something of a cult film in the US where it also spawned an excellent comic book spin-off.
Dystopian Sci-Fi made Justin the obvious candidate to write children’s television, which he has done since 2010 in tandem with his feature work. So far he has been co-head writer and voice director on the multiple Emmy-winning reboot of Peter Rabbit for Nick Jr (for which he also voiced several characters), Q-Pootle 5 and Digby Dragon amongst others. He is currently head writer on the brand new YouTube Original Series Sherwood, a Hunger Games-esque reimagining of the Robin Hood myth, set in 23rd century Britain, which will air in 2018.
Justin lives in London with his wife and two sons.
