Paul Ashton is a Senior Film Executive at Creative England, leading the talent team in Sheffield where they develop emerging directors, writers and producers towards getting their first features made as part of the BFI NET.WORK. Paul exec’s on iShorts, Emerging Talent shorts and feature film development, and leads major schemes such as the iWrite partnership with regional theatres. In the first two years of operations, amidst the dozens of shorts produced and features in development, Paul exec’d Emotional Fusebox, Rachel Tunnard’s BAFTA and BIFA nominated short, and then her debut feature How To Live Yours starring Jodie Whittaker – with a steady stream of further projects now packaging and financing.
Paul was previously Development Producer at BBC writersroom, and has freelanced for various BBC departments, Film4, BFI/UKFC, Spice Factory, Arts Council, and lectured at numerous universities and festivals. Previous credits include OSCAR-nominated Wish 143, BAFTA-nominated Turning, a slate of BBC ’Cineast’ films with B3 Media, Mustapha Kseibati’s BFI Short Mohammed, and Eran Creevy’s BAFTA-nominated Shifty. His book The Calling Card Script: A Writer’s Toolbox for Screen, Stage and Radio is published by Bloomsbury.
