Character transformation is at the heart of most screenplays, but why is it so important? Is character transformation just a tried and tested Hollywood formula based on outdated hero myths?

Or could the protagonist’s journey, from conscious external goal to unconscious need, reflect the hugely important processes of change that we typically experience in our own lives?

In this session, Kira-Anne investigates how people change, when they change and why – and WHY it’s so satisfying when characters in films reflect the same human mechanism of transformation.

You will learn:

  • The importance of peak experiences, low points and turning points
  • How our personalities, motivations and belief systems transform throughout our lives
  • How we can use these insights to create more emotionally engaging character arcs.
