with Scott Myers
Story problems are almost always character problems. If you have a completed script that needs help, this lab will take you deep into your story’s structure by working with its Protagonist and other key characters.
In the lab, six selected screenwriters will get specialized mentoring with Scott Myers, screenwriter (K-9, Alaska, Trojan War), professor (DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts), and host of Go Into The Story, the official screenwriting blog of the Black List.
Successful applicants will join Scott at the Festival for this intensive lab and through workshopping take their writing to the next level.
The goal: Focus on what is and what isn’t working in your script, then by delving into the lives and respective narrative functions of your characters discover the backbone, heart, and soul of your story.
Scott has taught hundreds of writers through ScreenwritingMasterClass.com, a unique online educational resource for writers and at the university level, plus he has been a mentor at every Black List feature writer’s lab. He has a unique character based approach to STORY and knows how to collaborate with writers in a workshop environment.
If you are selected, you will be expected to read and provide feedback on ALL six projects in this lab. It will be an immersive experience for all participants.
There will also be an online ‘meet-up’ before the festival to get a jump on the story analysis process. Hopefully the bond you forge through the entire lab experience will continue beyond the Festival.
To be considered for this lab, you will need to submit:
- The synopsis for a fully developed and completed feature script.
- The accompanying first ten of your script.
- 500 words on why you need to be a part of this lab.
