Kat WoodScreenwriter & Director
Kat grew up in Yarm, a quiet town in the North East of England, and is a former BBC broadcast journalist. Her first produced film, Mr Bojagi, won the Best Short Film Award at the London Independent Film Festival. In 2012, Kat was a finalist for the Bluecat Cordelia Award and Final Draft Big Break Contest, and in 2014 she was voted on to The Tracking Board’s ‘Young & Hungry’ list, which lists the top 100 emerging writers in Hollywood.
As a features screenwriter, Kat has written for the Fyzz Facility, Electric Shadow Company, Shooting Script Films and Bee Holder, and her first produced feature film Arthur & Merlin was released in the UK and US on DVD/VOD in 2015.
After finding success as a screenwriter, Kat then turned her hand to directing. As writer-director of the short film Home, Kat is the first UK winner of the Jameson First Shot Competition. Home stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, is produced by Kevin Spacey and was released last year, where it has over 1.2 million views on YouTube. Kat used this experience as a springboard into directing, and has two sci-fi feature writing-directing projects in development with producers, one with Cassandra Sigsgaard (Nina Forever), the other with funding from Creative England. She has also recently directed TV for Channel X.
Kat is a John Brabourne Awardee and a member of Directors UK, Women in Film & TV and Cinesisters. She is represented by Zero Gravity Management and Eric Feig Ent & Media Law.
