A TREATMENT IS A WRITER AIDE. NOT AN ENEMY OR A HINDRANCE.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Treatments are part and parcel of the writing experience for all committed, serious, trying-to-make-a-go-of-it television writers because, unless you want to write scripts for yourself, you will need to sell your idea to someone who can make it happen on screen. A Treatment is a surefire way of getting your idea across in as little page space and reading time as possible. And television producers love that.
In this session, TV Producer, Screenwriter and Script Editor Yvonne Grace (Eastenders, Holby City, Crossroads) will take you through the format, structure and content essential to creating dynamic and engaging Treatments for TV.
In this session you will learn how to:
- Be pithy
- Distill the essential elements of a great idea
- Hone the tone
- Enjoy the English language
- Build your treatment from character, plot and subtext
And how to avoid:
- Over Writing
- Flabby extraneous imagery or wordage
And how to focus on:
- Character
- Story
- Geography
- Message
Bring an idea you want to develop into a treatment to the session. Note pads and Laptops are welcome! Let Yvonne help you flesh out your worlds in 8 pages or less!
Take away a sample treatment written by Yvonne and a Treatment Template you can use for your future reference.
